Top 4 Lessons Learned at SXSW

Posted on Updated on

Thinking about heading to SXSW next year and never been before? You’re going to have a blast–but first, here are 4 recommendations from our Tea-m of things you need to know in order to survive SXSW (and do it well):

  1. Don’t try to be everywhere—planning is key. You’re going to arrive and be immediately overwhelmed by the schedule, infinite venues, and promising artists performing everywhere.  Pick four venues that you have a good shot of getting into each day, and commit.  This will save you hours of waiting in lines for shows you didn’t plan far enough ahead to attend, and risk waiting outside and missing the show—because we all know that’s no fun.  Our venue recommendations (and where you can find Honest Tea): Rachael Ray Feedback (at Stubbs), Bangers, Spotify House, and Empire Automotive.
  2. Great Food: If you’re going to last 7 days of late nights, early mornings and plenty of sun, you’ll need to make sure your diet supports it.  For the second year in a row we threw a delicious party with celebrity food enthusiast Rachael Ray, hosting 4 days of signature recipe eats paired with ice-cold Honest Tea.  The Honest highlight of the week in 2013 was creating an Honest Fizz Float bar, pairing our brand-new bubbly natural soda with local Austin craft ice creamery, Lick Ice Creams. (insert link) Insider tip: Honest Fizz Root Beer and Orange Pop pair perfectly with natural vanilla ice-cream! Make sure to RSVP in advance for our event next year, it will sell out.
  3. Great Music: There’s nothing worse seeing a band you can’t stand.  Luckily this wasn’t the case for the few-thousand people who enjoyed special performances from Delta Rae, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kenny Loggins, St Lucia, The Cringe, and many other artists.  These bands were all part of Rachael Ray’s Feedback Party, which makes it easy for you to RSVP to one event.
  4. Triple your fluids intake.  That single water bottle you’re used to drinking isn’t going to cut it in the Texas sun.  Luckily you’ll have countless bottles of ice-cold Honest Tea to keep you refreshed!

If you can check off all four of these boxes, you’re bound to have a great time and not miss out. We hope to see you in Austin!
